Mandiri Seals Strategic Agreement on Electronic Money with 12 Domestic Banks

Jakarta, 13 December 2017 - Bank Mandiri has entered into a strategic agreement on electronic money with 12 state-owned banks and domestic private banks, namely, Bank CIMB Niaga, Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN), Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat (BJB), Bank Panin, Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN), Bank Permata, Bank Danamon, Bank Mayapada, Bank DBS Indonesia, Bank KEB Hana Indonesia, Bank OCBC NISP and Bank Agris.

Bank Mandiri’s Director of Distributions, Hery Gunardi, said that through the agreement, the partner banks would benefit from greater convenience in selling electronic money to their customers, including the opportunity to avail of all Bank Mandiri transaction and top-up channels. For Bank Mandiri, the collaboration would help expand the Bank’s market penetration and increase the volume of its electronic money transactions.

“This synergy with 12 domestic banks is expected to help accelerate the national non-cash movement so that people become more accustomed to conducting non-cash transactions. Mandiri is actively cooperating with state institutions and forging synergies with SOEs so as to help boost and expand the e-money market,” explained Hery.

As of the end of November 2017, almost 13 million e-money cards had been issued by Bank Mandiri, with the number of transactions standing at more than 510 million, valued at some Rp 5.45 trillion.

Currently, prepaid e-money cards can be used for transactions in the transportation sector (road tolls, parking charges, train and Transjakarta tickets), retail merchants, food outlets, theme parks and other merchants, with more than 62 thousand outlets accepting such cards. E-money cards can be topped up at more than 60 thousand top-up locations throughout Indonesia.

In addition to promoting corporate collaboration on e-money, Bank Mandiri has also issued e-money cards with special designs so as to increase public interest in electronic money, such as the special Asian Games 2018 and Justice League e-money card editions.
